Viking Fest 2023: A Surprisingly Awesome Weekend Experience for an Uninitiated Photographer

You know what they say, ignorance is bliss. But for me, ignorance is just an opportunity to learn something new and potentially weird. I mean, have you ever binged a show about car mechanics or Bigfoot? No? Just me? Alright then.

But seriously, there's something about people who are so passionate about a subject that they can talk about it for hours on end that draws me in. That's why I found myself at Viking Fest in Whitestown, Indiana last weekend. Sure, I had a rudimentary knowledge of viking culture from middle school, and I may have binge-watched Vikings on The History Channel, but I am by no means an expert.

Let me tell you, Viking Fest was the real deal. People were dressed in period clothing, there were artisans teaching their crafts, and the air was filled with music. And don't even get me started on the weaponry and entertainment that were on display. I even found myself wandering into the woods of Anson Acres to experience the viking camps that were set up.

As I danced, explored, and cheered with the crowd of people around me, I couldn't help but think: who knew I could enjoy viking folk heavy metal as much as I did? It’s definitely not my normal vibe (I’m usually a sports-talk radio kind of guy), but I loved it. Maybe I’ll have to find a new Spotify playlist.

So, what's your thing? I bet there's a whole world of people out there who'd love to know more about you and that thing you love. And I'd love to snap some pictures for you, to capture that passion and enthusiasm. So, click that orange "Check Availability" button and let's dream up a plan together.
